Drumming concert 30 may 2019

5/31/2019

This year, Clonmoney NS applied to the Arts Council for assistance in providing & promoting our pupils’ engagement with the arts from an early age. We are delighted that we were successful in this application and over the last number of months, all our pupils have experienced & learned about drumming over many sessions on Fridays through our expert here. I would to introduce & welcome our artist, Brian Flemming. Brian Fleming is a drummer, theatre maker, and festival director who has performed in over 30 countries, including all countries in Western Europe and Scandinavia and many on the Asian, African and American continents.
He has recorded on over 50 albums and performed with musicians such as Davy Spillane, Mamady Keita and The Chieftains. Brian loves art about inter culturalism and has taught our children so much about drums and music from all over the globe. Below are videos of all our pupils performing their pieces at the concert yesterday. Well done to all & míle, míle buíochas Brian!

Maths in Junior infants

10/13/2018

We have been busy in our classroom learning lots in maths. Some of what we have been doing includes: looking at 3-d shapes and how we can use them to build lots of things. We learned that some shapes are better for building than others as some roll away and some do not. We had good fun working together to build. We have been learning about squares and circles too and finding them in our classroom.
We worked in pairs to make patterns with different items. We were very good at this and enjoyed it. Have a look at some of our photos!

Autumn Aistear in Junior Infants

10/13/2018

Junior Infants have been very busy for the last few weeks learning and playing about all things  Autumn. This was our theme for Aistear (our structured play sessions).
Some of the stations we played at included:

Role Play: Children formed a 'Tidy Towns Committee' to keep our locality clean in Autumn. All the foliage created quite a mess but our committee members worked together with rakes, litter pickers, gloves and brushes to tidy up!

Art: We made and coloured autumn pictures using crayons, leaves, matchsticks, paper, glue and scissors. We were spotting differences between seasonal pictures, making hedgehogs, leaf prints and more.

Playdough: We used autumn themed playdough mats to help us make some playdough creations including acorns, hedgehogs,

Construction: We made farm sheds for the animals who come indoors to keep warm late in Autumn time.

Sand table: we were finding and sorting conkers, acorn and beech nuts in the sand.

Saturday 28th April 2018 saw us host 2km & 7km runs in aid of our new Literacy Lift Off Programme in the Junior classes. Huge thanks to our fantastic Parents Association for organising this along with Shannon GoTri club for their hard work and for sponsoring the timing and equipment used. The event was a marvellous success, raising over €2600 which will cover the substantial costs of our new graded/levelled readers. Thank you to all families and the wider community who contributed and participated in this lovely event. The school and Board of Management would also like to thank Crowes shop for sponsoring bananas, Ken Tucker for his drone footage and Barry Sutton for providing water bottles and the fabulous photos here.

We had a very busy month of March before our holidays. Here are some photos of our Write a books, The Spring Trail, exploring ordinal number, Easter egg hunt, seachtain na gaeilge music, Mother’s Day crafts and the iPads. We had visits from a storyteller Ruth Marshall and Matthews granny came in to tell us about her work as a postwoman.
