We started off maths week today with the first of our maths trails. We used our 'maths eyes' to find lots of squares and circles inside and outside the school. We ended off our session outside with the playground game 'What time is it Mr Wolf?'

We have been busy in our classroom learning lots in maths. Some of what we have been doing includes: looking at 3-d shapes and how we can use them to build lots of things. We learned that some shapes are better for building than others as some roll away and some do not. We had good fun working together to build. We have been learning about squares and circles too and finding them in our classroom. We worked in pairs to make patterns with different items. We were very good at this and enjoyed it. Have a look at some of our photos! Junior Infants have been very busy for the last few weeks learning and playing about all things Autumn. This was our theme for Aistear (our structured play sessions). Some of the stations we played at included: Role Play: Children formed a 'Tidy Towns Committee' to keep our locality clean in Autumn. All the foliage created quite a mess but our committee members worked together with rakes, litter pickers, gloves and brushes to tidy up! Art: We made and coloured autumn pictures using crayons, leaves, matchsticks, paper, glue and scissors. We were spotting differences between seasonal pictures, making hedgehogs, leaf prints and more. Playdough: We used autumn themed playdough mats to help us make some playdough creations including acorns, hedgehogs, Construction: We made farm sheds for the animals who come indoors to keep warm late in Autumn time. Sand table: we were finding and sorting conkers, acorn and beech nuts in the sand. |
